Add Suffix is a contextual menu module that allows you to automatically add an appropriate suffix to a Mac file. This is especially handy when transferring files to foreign systems.
Requirements
The Add Suffix contextual menu module requires MacOS 8.0 or later, a PowerMac, and Internet Config (IC 2.0 or later preferred). You should also set up your Internet Config File Mappings properly, or you’re just wasting your time.
You can find Internet Config at:
<http://www.stairways.com/ic/>
Installation
Simply drag Add Suffix onto your closed system folder, and confirm the resulting dialog box.
Usage
Use Add Suffix as you would any other Finder contextual menu item. Simply control-click on the file or selection, and choose “Add Suffix”.
Note that Add Suffix currently picks a suffix based solely on the type/creator code in the Internet Config database. If the file’s type/creator can’t be found in the IC database, its type will remain unchanged.
Additionally, although Add Suffix will try to pick the right suffix, there are often multiple suffixes for a single file type. Correcting this problem is a slight hassle. What you have to do is set the unwanted suffixes to “not for outgoing” in the Internet Config file mappings panel:
After this is done, it should use the entry which isn’t set to “not for outgoing”. As an example, you would probably want to set the “.pct”, “pic”, and “.mac” mappings to “not for outgoing”, so that the much preferable “.pict” extension would be used instead.
